Jewish Boxers From Philadelphia by Harry Boonin - Book Project

Subject: Jewish Boxers - Philadelphia
Author – Harry Boonin
My name is Hary D. Boonin. I am a local historian in Philadelphia. I have
written two books about the immigrant Russian Jews who settled in the old
Jewish quarter of Philadelphia (around South Street) between 1881 and the
1930s. I am presently writing a book about the boxers (1895 to 1930) that
came from the Jewish quarter.
I have information on the well-known fighters (Lew Tendler, Benny Bass,
Harry Blitman, Battling Levinsky, etc.). I am looking for stories, letters,
diaries, photographs of the lesser known Jewish fighters, managers (such as
Phil Glassman, Boo Boo Hoff), trainers (Scoodles Reinfeld) and sports
writers (such as Lou Jaffe) of Philadelphia. Any personal stories or
personal contacts to families of these fighters, managers, sports writers,
etc., would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
